This package (Book and Triple CD) is aimed at provided an educational programme of fun for Primary schools, and to some extent, for second-level schools to give pupils a taste of the Irish language and culture. The book is laid out in 10 chapters – to suit the school year of September to June. Each month includes Irish words and phrases, placenames, surnames, proverbs, the history of the Gaelic Athletic Association and a piece on Cú Chulainn or Fionn Mac Cumhaill. The package also includes songs, music, Wordsearch and other items on Irish or Celtic festivals etc as they occur throughout the year e.g. Samhain, the Puck Fair, St. Brigid.
The entire package – the Irish language content, the music and the songs – are recorded on the triple CD. The Irish words, phrases and songs are read by native Irish speakers from Donegal. This all means that the package can be taught by teachers who have little or no Irish or can be used as a self-teaching package.
I wish to thank Foras na Gaeilge for their assistance in funding this project.
